Ralph Land and his identical twin brother, Frank were born in Germany in 1928, fleeing the Nazi regime in 1939.
Both Lands were instrumental in the early design of LEO, but after that their careers diverged, with Land becoming instrumental in securing business in the Soviet bloc for English Electric LEO Marconi and then ICL.
