The LEO Computers Society started in 1978 organising reunions amongst the people who had built or used LEO computers
In 2019, it registered as a charity as many younger people became interested in preserving this important story of British technology and industry.
Members of the Society volunteer with partner museums, collecting oral histories, documents and artifacts, and speaking about LEO to groups like U3A and schools.
There are face-to-face social events and regular online meetings for members, with guest speakers on computing history and how the devices and information-handling concepts we all use today link back to LEO and their other roots. The Society increasingly relies on younger people with an interest in keeping this important history alive, and discovering more – but our events are still opportunities to meet in person some of those who designed, built, programmed and operated LEO computers in the ‘age of steam’ of British computing.
